DESTIHL opened in the M2 Building in downtown Champaign in early 2011, and it has enjoyed the downtown location ever since. However, its current lease ends in February 2021, and although DESTIHL has an option to renew the M2 lease for another 5-10 years, it has outgrown that space and cannot accommodate the size of private events now being requested at the restaurant. Other factors in making the move were DESTIHL’s desire for a larger outdoor dining space, so loved by guests at its other locations, and the need for more convenient and ample parking for its growing number of guests, employees and even carry-out & delivery patrons through its new delivery partners.
So, with its need and desire to expand, DESTIHL looked southwest to build its new home. Attracting DESTIHL was the trending growth and development of southwest Champaign and Carle at The Fields, the large number of daytime employees at the Carle development to further build its lunch business, the amount of great, nearby residential areas and the proximity to I-57, among other factors.
The new DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works location will feature additional private dining and event spaces, a relaxing lakeside patio dining and lounge area, a brewhouse, a separate carry-out entrance, a large, full bar and more seating overall than its current location.

Green Street Realty is anxious to start this project that will kick off the company’s third phase of development in southwest Champaign. “We have a lot going on with both residential and retail tenants, which is exciting. DESTIHL® Restaurant & Brew Works of Champaign has signed a long-term lease agreement with Green Street Realty to build a new, stand-alone location at the ‘Carle at The Fields’ 210-acre development in southwest Champaign.
Construction of the new 10,000 square feet restaurant and brewpub will begin in Spring 2020 with an opening slated for Fall. The facility will be built to suit at the southeast corner of the Carle development, which is situated at the northwest quadrant of I-57 and Curtis Road. The large commercial development is anchored by Carle and Health Alliance, which together already occupy 500,000 square feet in administrative, office and medical buildings with about 1,500 daytime employees on campus, plus a Hampton Inn & Suites and two 45,000 square feet mixed-use retail, office & residential buildings. DESTIHL will serve as an anchor restaurant for the growing development.
